Participants are asked to bring the following:
- Xacto craft knife. Available at Michael’s. If lucky you can find at the Dollar store. (See the image below)
- Watercolour paints. Any watercolours will do. If using tubes, bring a small pallet or plate.
- Watercolour brushes. One fine and one medium.
- Sundries including: pencil, eraser, ballpoint pen, sharpie, water container, paper towel.
- A prepared sketch approximately 4 x 6”. Try to keep the drawing simple as each line will need to be cut on the block.
- Imagination and a sense of play!
There are a number of tools which can be used to carve the wood block including: Xacto craft knives, linoprint tools, small woodcarving gouges or chisels.
For this workshop, I strongly recommend the Xacto knife shown on the second from the left of the picture. It produces a clean line, and is relatively easy to use. It has a triangular blade and a comfortable grip for easy carving. It is available at Michael's. Similar knives can be purchased at Canadian Tire (prices vary between $10-20; but they are worth it.) I have purchased similar knives at the Dollar Store, but they are hard to find and not always in stock. (When I find them I buy all they have). |
