While I was at Killarney with the OSA, I did a bit of plein-air painting with oils. I am still relatively new at plein-air, and was lucky to get some good advice from other more experienced OSA artists during the weekend. I brought my little boards home, and let them sit for a couple of weeks in the studio. I let them dry and then did a little adjustment here and there. I post images of some of the attempts below.
I decided that I wanted to do another painting of the plants reflected in the lily pond at the RBG. This one is also oil and gold leaf, and measures 48 x 24".
I have titled it "Brief Moment of Stillness", and, when I finally get my act together to do the exhibition, I hope to hang it next to the painting I completed before, which I have finally called "Evanescence".
The two are shown together below.
Some members of the OSA (Ontario Society of Artists) and their friends spent the weekend at the Killarney Mountain Lodge (Sept. 26 - 29). Incredible views, perfect sunny weather, brilliant autumn colours, great food and wonderful company - a recipe for a fabulous weekend. There was sailing, kayaking (for some), hiking - and painting, painting, painting! There was even time for some partying and the sharing of a drop of the grape.
I had the opportunity of making new friends and of learning more about the society of which I have the honour of being a member and the new President.
And there is the bonus of having enough photographic material and memories to inspire many, many paintings.
I am happy that my lotus painting with the (final) title "Floating Pink and Gold" was accepted into the CFS Open Juried Show. The exhibition runs from November 6 - 28, 2013 at the Etobicoke Civic Centre Art Gallery (399 The West Mall, Etobicoke). The opening reception will be held on November 17, 2013 from 2 - 4 pm. I am also pleased that Susan had a monoprint accepted into the exhibition.
