When we first came to Mexico in mid-January, we visited friends who winter in Chicxulub in the Yucatan Peninsula. (Chicxulub is north of Merida, just outside Progreso). On our morning walks along the beach, we saw many beautiful houses and buildings -many of them white, but others of brilliant colours. Did a few sketches to try to capture the warmth.
The coastal area near Chicxulub is not just beach condos. Mayan ruins, such as those at Xcambo, are close by.

Susan and I are taking a break from winter (even what appears to be a mild one) and are happily ensconced in a wonderful apartment in Jocotepec (Lake Chapala district of Mexico). The days are warm and sunny - the nights are cool and good for sleeping. I am inspired to try my hand at a few watercolours (an unusual medium for me - but portable). I want to incorporate some of the Mexican colours as seen in the tile work and my breakfast cereal bowl.
In the garden, just down from our apartment, there are some calla lilies - I thought I'd incorporate a couple as if they were lying on a countertop. No lilies were hurt in creating this picture; I left them growing happily.
